Confused
I was once confused
Why people would walk by me and shoot up their noses with an attitude
Why I had certain things that I could do
I was once confused
Why we had to be treated like that
Why did my great-grandparents had those marks on their backs
I was once confused
Of why it had to be mostly African Americans
Ran by the white men
I was once confused
Of what was meant by the ropes
And why my ancestors prayed and hoped
I was once confused
Of why I couldn't learn to read and write
And why my ancestors risked their lives to sneak out at night
But now I'm no longer confused
Of why we're looked down on most of the time
And why they think we're only good for a nine to five
I'm no longer confused
Of why my dreams are big and I believe that I can be better that you
And be good at what I do
I was once confused
By the things that my ancestors went through
And how they were used
I once was, but no longer, confused
