Concrete Jungle

A poem I wrote

The Street's with no growth.

There was no green grass
On the Street's of Hulme
No green grass
Just a concrete tomb

No green grass
Just tarmac hard
Cobbled street
Flagged backyard

No green grass
On the roadside edge
No flower, tree
No bush nor hedge

No green grass
In the Hulme we grew
Street football
Was all we knew

No green grass
From the day I was born
No green grass
No child safe lawn

No green grass
No plans for green
Just a concrete jungle
Could be seen

Manchester City Council Town Planning Department. You know what they did.

They took all the tree's and
They put them in a tree museum
They charged the people of Hulme
About £2.00 each, just to see them
Don't you know
It goes to show
You never know
What you had
Till it's gone
They took all the trees and
They put them in a tree museum
