Comparisons

You, like idolatry
clean and holy
me, like mud holding
heavy footfall, reluctant
to let go
You, like the optimistic
flame of an iron
lantern, radiating
me, like the pallid moth
trapped inside, embracing
the flame to get
it over with.
You, with footsteps
fading from my ears
as you recede into
the concrete ocean.
me, standing still
as a shipwreck watch
as leaves ebb and flow
in streams, casting
worried looks my way
