The Logic of Longing Poetry Contest
Prompt A torn canvas is two paintings
08/08/26 HMS

!!!!!Coming through!!!!!

It’s not magic, though absolutely true
one image torn, two visions accrue
not a triptych, but someone new
a third party twists the view
               deforming what he knew
                  came out of the blue
                    but why, but who?

                         a dear John
                              Billet
                              doux

It’s not a nice thing to do on a fiancé Paula, they probably do it by a text message these days, but yeah dear John’s/Jane’s are always going to be around in one form or another, thanks so much for kind comments and congratulations, cheers David

I especially loved the line “ not a triptych, but someone new” I had to look that up. And I love always learning a thing or two! Everyday is for learning! And you taught me definitely something and its impressive how you painted this story! In such a clever manner! And For some reason I actually heard you read this out loud! Perhaps, its time for a new spoken word? Hah 🥹 yes? I think so!! Get it on dear David! Pleasure reading Thank you for sharing this Congratulations on your win Sending you light always

Hey there Ink, I took a bit of a chance for your contest with this short piece, as the contest was closing pretty fast, but to be honest it felt just right when writing it, I always enjoy trying something different or bringing in a different perspective, which I know you are open minded enough to embrace, I also hope you use triptych in one of your poems, I’m sure you could take that word in any direction you choose, especially in your unique metaphors, yes Laurentine comes up with the most philosophically profound prompts, I’m honoured and delighted with your placement, and your extra light is always welcome, cheers David

Dear David, So good to see you inspired and so honored that you wrote for my contest! This prompt is one of the very deep philosophical ones suggested by my friend Laurentine, and I am not surprised that it got you to ink something so very deep and profound! What I love about this etheree, is that I felt like I was looking right into an abstract painting, trying to decipher and appreciate the flow and rhythm! And by rhythm I mean, the cadence of your rhymes! Its clever, and especially when read out loud!

Aw thanks so much Laurentine, I’m delighted with Inks placement, and the chance to tackle your thought provoking prompt, sorry I turned it into a triptych, (no I’m not) That was always my master stroke lol! Your original comment is still as potent today as when you wrote it, cheers David

Very cool way to do Ink's challenge with that picture and poetry form you used.

Woahh! This is seriously coming through! What an immaculate and absolutely unique take , you've really extracted the essence of the prompt and presented this in your signature dimension style, dear David! What an absolutely marvelous Etheree to begin with and all the rhyming that you chose ~ it really reads so effortlessly and such that it reflects excellent poetic techniques stitched together.. a torn canvas and three different views ~ I really love the use of the word "triptych" really gives a different shape to your words, wow! When the space left between the two, gives rise to a blankness that becomes a barrier and gives way.. a third silhouette, emerging! That's quite a climax and what not! The twist.. left me intrigued.. what an absolutely fantastic take on the prompt! Enjoyed reading this as always, sending you moonbeams and poetic starlight! 🔥✨✨💫💫🔥

Thank you so much Hiya for taking the time to analyse each perspective of my Etheree, I put that little rhyme scheme in to try sharpen up how it reads, I probably just about got away with it lol! The emerging triptych was always foremost in my mind, so was very important to work the poem around that concept, I certainly appreciate your moonbeams and starlight, as tomorrow we will be having a 94% total eclipse in Ireland, weather permitting of course, I have my solar glasses at the ready🙏, cheers David

Ahh the skill of an etheree, then raising the bar with monorhyme, then it's shapely, oh and interesting wordplay (I'm hooked on triptych!) 🤩 is it the end, the beginning or perhaps there is a third option 😅 delightful poetry, a pleasure to read and endless tangents and interpretations to ponder 🥰 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

There is a romantic tangent there to be explored, and even after the letter is opened and read, the possibilities and realities are still endless, ♾️

I've romanticised the idea of a Dear John, billet doux as a single document and how alternate universes might be affected! Indeed the possibilities are endless. Or the vibrations just from the sight of a supposed love letter can already weave magic haha!

This one did take a bit of figuring out Laurentine, and I agree the triptych is the essence of the breakup scenario, a whole new picture emerges with that third party skulking around, so you’re right the end and beginning is happening simultaneously, all depending on the point of view of the protagonists, but there might well be a third option emerging 🤫 thanks so much for your expansive comment, cheers David

A love letter to break up so we have the logic of longing.

Absolutely Alison! what he longed for was a love letter from his darling, but then once a little logic was applied upon opening, A Dear John shatters its view, cheers David
