Comfort Foods

Creamy mashed potatoes, and warm white gravy,
Corn on the cob with butter oozing off it,
Hot meatloaf with sugary ketchup frosting,
Spicy fine spaghetti cooked exactly right,
Comfort foods.
Not counting the pie.

We eat left overs all week long
As I always make enough for a family of thirteen.
And we have only ever been a family of five.
There are only two of us now.

We do not bother to pretend by
Fixing carrots or radishes or celery any more.
They always got thrown to the rabbits
After we went to all that work of
Cleaning and scraping them.

Comfort foods.
We are all about them.
