Come Gather After Dawn
Come Gather After Dawn
Come gather after dawn
Trees leave ingredients behind
They die
Apparently an air of autumn rises
To conspire
Caught up in the surprise
Leaves settle old scores
And seem too heavy for the earth
Hiding by doors
Lingering about golden fields
Blown there by old winds
Lawns listen to strangers
And crackles here and there
Mysteriously retracing every step
A dangerous undertaking
Secrets are better left unsaid
Come gather after dawn
Seasons fall along the lines of reason
Drawn to laws of nature
They take. Give nothing back
And in the dark
Things grow
We know to keep quiet
To face the fierce and wild rains untamed
Wait and wait again with patience
That’s when we’ll find the way
Through darkened forest
To gather after dawn
