Combination Neighborhood Feast

Dellabetas brought in the tomato sauce, Shanks came with pepperoni and sausage My mother had a great idea Why not roll out some dough and bake it together? Dough with meat and tomato sauce? Why not? It is just quirky enough to do something. Aunt Gladys brought in some cottage cheese. She wanted us to add that too. When she was not looking, we put it into the refrigerator. Cottage cheese did not seem to go along with our theme. It was a neighborhood feast, and it was terrific in the end. It is pizza! Our cousin from New York told us. This was 1961. We were meat and potatoes people. We had never heard of pizza, but we liked it. The next time we saw the word pizza it was on a Chef BoyArDee Pizza making kit.

My, my. Those were the days. I never heard of pizza until I was an adult, a long way from the hills of West Virginia.

We did not know anything about it at all until I was about ten.
