Colored Memories
Oh, how they brightened little eyes
and felt so great in tiny hands.
So many colors to choose from;
a gift that came with no demands...
Except for that of paper, blank,
or printed shapes to color in,
to make their pictures come alive,
and watch their Nana, Papa, grin.
Crayola Crayons...now they lay
inside a box stored on a shelf;
once wrapped as worthy birthday gifts
or left 'neath trees by Santa's Elf.
Some very worn, others like new,
now stored next to a folder of
those drawings that our grandkids made
and colored in for us with love.
I think about those little hands...
accomplished now, as grownup size.
Now, prouder still...but at that time...
those colored gems were such a prize.
