collecting seashells

Listen to poem:
Seashells pave the beach ground grit is the sand like old clothes in the opportunity shop forlorn shells an adornment of remnant remains. As I walk I cherry-pick the shells with bright colors with appealing shapes and patterns whole shells, complete with smooth entire edges. But my choice is riddled with guilt for choosing only the best and brightest well-decorated headstones to adorn my shelves, at home.

what a touching poem John, As a child I used to love collecting shells when we were on holiday, one of my treasures was a sea urchin shell we got in Norway, sadly it got broken many many years later. I love poems about the sea and beach - we don't have many shells on our beach but I do collect the odd one:-) love that final stanza - the feeling of guilt of taking the choice 'shells' is something we can all relate to at one time or another:-) hugs jan xx
