Coffee My Love
A morning coffee, so sublime
Awakening senses just in time,
Swirling aromas fill the air
Murmuring ‘ignore me if you dare’.
Dark, mysterious, from whence it came unknown
Other than in some exotic land was grown,
Caressed by warming breeze and sun
The progeny of nature from when time begun.
Nurtured and loved along the way,
Tended with care day after day,
Pride and passion never in doubt,
Watched and protected from storm and drought.
And then to us the grateful suitors,
Cupping our spoils like furtive looters;
This liquid gold in all but name,
So deserving of its fame.
But spare a thought for those brave folks,
That filled their lives with toil and hopes,
With calloused hands and sunburned faces,
Their smile transcends, their gift amazes.
