The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

Coffee House

Helplessly, I saunter in and step into the line.
Drawn into the store by the aroma so devine.
I reach inside my pocketbook and quickly rummage through.
Finally, some dollars, to get my morning brew.

Intoxicating, rich and dark, I never can resist.
Penetrating every pore just like a lover’s kiss.
The line moves ever slowly until I’m there at last.
Underneath a magic spell the precious drink has cast.

Eventually, with brew in hand I’m quickly on my way.
Secure in thought that I can now begin my hectic day.
Liquid treasure in a cup that slowly calls my name.
Lost in sweet seduction, every morning it's the same.

Probably its because I'm a fiction writer, i don't know, I strongly feel of all poems I've read on poetrysoup, this is the most impressive. Not just about subject-matter, but about style and creative genius. Thanks, and kindly find time to coach my feeble attempts.

Aint that the truth. "Helplessly" describes it. The old saying, "I'd walk a mile for a Camel," is true of coffee too. Enjoyed mucho. Love, daver

Hi Sami-My goodness this is a great WAIT in a coffee line! Very enticing indeed! My son used to work at a coffee shoppe on the nicest side of town and he said the business women would come and pay 5 dollars for a big cup of coffee every morning and looked like a million dollars in their power suits! He really "loved" that job..hahah. ""Penetrating every pore just like a lover's kiss"".....exceptional poetry, gal! gwendolen

Hey Gwendolyn, Yes, those coffee shops are really something else. I used to work in a building on 7th Avenue in NYC and there was a Starbuck's store downstairs. We used to buy the frapuccino's at 3:00 and run around wired all afternoon! LOL Thank you Gwendolyn. :)
