C'Mon, Let's Defund the Police

C'mon! Let's defund the police
Just make sure not to open the schools
To leave them defenseless, we'd be fools
Unless, suddenly, shooters desist and cease...

And we'd better keep offices and factories shut
So that one day some angry ex-worker nut
Doesn't walk in and shoot your place up
Then saunter away with a chuckle and a strut...

Of course, government will come to a grinding halt
No more protection for Trump, Pelosi, or Schumer
Yes, I've heard that's not such a wild rumor
With nobody to prevent murder, it's nobody's fault

So well written and absolutely true - every word. The world is not a good place right now. Great work Gershon. Best wishes Ron :)

Ron, can't ask for more support than you've given me here. Much appreciated. Keep the faith! Cheers, Gershon

So true , Gershon. I agree with restructuring, more training and holding officers accountable, but I wouldn't send my kids to school if there were no police to protect them. I live near Parkland, so a school shooting is always in the back of my mind. If anything, we need MORE good police officers and the ones who think they are above the law should be terminated. Most of these bad cops have many complaints against them before a tragedy happens. I'm all for change but not defunding. :) Rhonda xx

There you go, Rhonda! I've been saying that for years: More and smarter policing in schools is needed, not less ---although this is an extremely unfortunate development. It's reality... Here's s/t to munch on: Biggest three problems in high schools in the 1950's: Butting in in line; writing on bathroom stall walls; wads of gum on the bottoms of chair seats... What have we come to?! Cheers, Gershon

Hello Gershon … anarchy would rule and civil war would constantly occur without deterrent. A few bad apples gives the whole crop a bad name. Good to read some perspective Gershon - Lindsay

You're probably right, Lindsay… Hope martial law doesn't come into play here. You never know...

given the choice between a society without police vs. one with them.... I'll choose the latter. :)

I'm with you here... although the choice needn't come to that if people would just take a deep breath... :) gw

Being a police officer is a totally thankless job because they must give out a quota of traffic tickets and break up domestic violence and situations like that. It is a shame that some select few spoil the integrity of the many. I do agree they are much too fast to arrest people of color sometimes ending in unjustified deaths. They need to be held accountable. I hope to see change come about with our present protests. I can relate to your words. xxoo

It's scary. That much is for sure. Appreciate your considered comments, Connie. Warm wishes, Gershon

I am concerned also. No idea where these new ideas are originating.

Oh, defund the police is originating from a combo of idealists --- and criminals and wannabe criminals who can't wait for it to happen
