Clown At the Abyss

Clown at the Abyss

God’s fool!
Darkness condemned whispers into ears
Of jeering streets lined with crowds
Stabbing betrayal into Heaven’s blackened eye
Where packs of prowling unbelief
Demand another sign -
  One more cripple dancing
    One more mute singing praise
One more fallen messenger chased back into fiery separation –
Smirking rules of righteous rituals
 Scream into the whirlwind
To ridicule the Living Promise unbroken -
The breathing Incarnation pledged to open gates
Paddle locked then lost to dust in desert storms -
Guardians of the covenant
 Only see a clown
Costumed in red ribbons of scarlet salt,
Stumbling buffoon – crown fool –
 Save yourself – save us
  From your foolish love,
   Trying to enchant us -
Clown hanging over the abyss that all flesh fears
 Yet sees clearly
   Your handiwork awaiting
To slip so effortlessly through a gossamer veil -
Wearing scars of fear and jealousy,
    Imprints everlasting –
Fool - now seen Almighty and all knowing –
Clown - now praised as King eternal.

Sam, you do this style of poetry so, so well. "Costumed in red ribbons of scarlet salt" for the streams of blood flowing down the Savior's face and body. "One more fallen messenger chased back into fiery separation" for casting out a demon. "Guardians of the covenant" for the Sanhedrin. A very warm congratulations for your win in Heather's contest, my friend ~ John

Thank you, my friend. This poem basically wrote itself and I am truly honored to be its author. I think it is the culmination of many years of Easter experiences.
