Clown At the Abyss
The life of the party- they say,
so quick to join in every plan,
with bright eyes that light up his face-
a smile that will soon draw you in.
There always, to help as a friend-
quick giving up time to appease;
and wearing that big smile that says
I'm happy- on top of the world.
But then, in the darkness of night-
when no one's around to perceive,
the loneliness that fills his heart-
rolls down from his eyes as sad tears.
The face of a clown shows outside
with bright eyes that light up his face;
a smile that will soon draw you in-
the life of the party- they say.
But really, a clown lives within;
he stands by the shore of the lake-
fake happiness wearing him out-
too hard to go on with the show.
The clown at the abyss now stares-
eyes dull- and no smile on his face;
calm water glows bright neath the moon-
and into death's peace- he is drawn.
His cell phone now rings- he responds;
the words that he hears give him pause.
"Hey, Buddy, where are you tonight?
This party's so dead without you!"
