Closing Time

Life, lightened by the spoken word
Embellished by a secret chord
Once struck your ear, it never grew to bore you
No need to prove that the song was right
As every line's a blaze of light
Rehearsed throughout his lifetime, Hallelujah!
Denotes the poet's major lift...to Glory!

Closing time was the poet's code
Of Chelsea Hotel's dancing mode
"Hell to Pay" what a pricey cost!
Eternal music yet not lost!
Now feels like freedom, just looks like death. His Story!

I have to be honest, Margarita, I wasn’t familiar with Leonard Cohen or his music, I had to look him up but it was well worth it. Thank you for educating me. I like the way you worked his song titles into your poem, nicely penned my friend. Hugs, John
