Closed Eyes

The undreaming eyes close The veiled vision darkens Like the twilight sky smeared by the drizzle of night From the realm of stars on the kaleidoscopic panorama That floats like butterfly so close yet so far As the glimmering motif of astral existence Giving at each passing moment Your life a sense of purpose and faith Your mind carries to people in need Their visionless eyes don’t see. The drowsy eyes close The distant dreams appear Like flowers blooming from unfurled buds Make a bouquet of colored expectations Not yet withered in the grip of harsh reality Designs the tapestry of crafted existence That glows in the lingering light of hope Your mind transmits to people in the dark Their unclosed eyes don’t see. The still eyes close The time stops to flow Like a river frozen in the winter of your life Where the melded past and future slide together Away from the present congealed as stilled moments Waiting for the time to melt and flow again From the chromatic horizon of new dawn of your life When your closed eyes would open You will see people near in the sunshine Their arms stretched to embrace you. If ever you open your eyes. Written : April 15, 2018 January 31, 2020 Contest : Strand Choice 11, Any Form, Any Theme Sponsor : Brian Strand
