Close To My Heart

Close to my heart
For now we are apart
Far from our home
How fast you’ve grown
Changes an inevitability
Now our home is silent with tranquility
Close to my heart
On the wall hangs your childhood art
Watching your empty bed
Envisioning the nights we read
Remembering your younger days
Ingrained in our minds the child we raised
Close to my heart
Now we’ll make a new start
Making holidays a special place
Happy when you visit and we embrace
Proud to see your strengths
And you’ve grown taller by am arms length
Close to my heart

This poem was written about our daughter Alexandra gone off to college!

Laura, your love for Alexandra is very evident in this sweet recollection of her childhood. Very nice! Thanks for reading "Unicorn." Love, Carolyn
