Notes About The Poem

Almost a stanzaic meter/metre :)

The story of Little Lord Fauntleroy has a special meaning for me. The little boy Cedric, living a very humble life, only to find out he is the heir to an incredible grumpy old Lord. In the end he turns everyone around, making them happy just because of who he is. The book was very important when published, and caused a hype, even the stylish clothing of the boy has become quite famous..

I read this book while away, from country to country I took it with me, in the end I lost it somehwere and that still hurts a lot. Even though the connotation in this poem isn't that positive.

Close My Eyes and Dance Away

Give me all of my private time
I will succumb without a fight
And later be your every whim
First those few seconds of respite
Before once more I crawl through slime
Notice how once my gown was white
But cooked with silted tears and grime

Give me one minute of your day
To bend and chew on and enjoy
Before you take it all away
To you I am no more than a toy
Commodity for you to play
Inconvenience, little joy
Your Little Lord Fauntleroy

Give me a second and I crawl -
To sleep, forget about the day -
To the stone against the wall
Close my eyes and dance away
Jump so high and never fall
The uncrowned king of ballet
Applauded in the dance hall

My mind is free, my mind is mine
My words have meaning, see them shine

Thanks for the notes you put up. What a shame, that you have lost the book. But you will always have it inside you. Kai

This poem packs a huge wallup, Darren. So full of emotion: dread, dreams, love, hate...and it makes my heart hurt. You are such a talent.

This is almost unbearably poignant. In terms of its technical brilliance, the manipulation of rhyme and syntax shines out - but I also marvel at your mastery of casual, colloquial English. And that word "succumb" is to die for!

As Lisa pointed out, I see that time theme and looked up the story too :) I learn so much from your poems and enjoy just reading them. Your mind is free and thank goodness for that as you share your talent here.

It's not selfish dear friend :) I'll probably add a small bit about Fauntleroy here in the notes.

True, shining words. Do not be shy and put up a bit of 'Little Lord Fauntleroy's story, maybe. This is a good write, Kai

Good Morning Darren. There is nothing I could say to this. Anything would be significant. Just know in my eyes you have achieved all the poetic elements especially the emotive factor. You honestly have the poetic flair and touch. "Give me all of my private time" "Give me one minute of your day" Give me a second and I crawl" There are no words for that expression. May such beauty remain within you always. I think this was well done I'll have to double check (ha ha)

Hah Lisa, Grazie again! You noticed that so well, that time element in there. Thank you for seeing the poetic value in my words!
