Notes About The Poem

Close Call

It seems she hangs in the air
I brake - I see her eye - her form
A deer in perfect freeze frame
She’s gone as abruptly
as she appeared
from nowhere.

It's cool to see deer but sure not when they run in front of one's car! I like this a lot and the picture you put with it.

Sadly many don't make it, saw a stag once that had been hit by a car and that was in daylight. You captured the scene well Suz, good luck in the contest and enjoy your weekend. Tom

Hello Suzanne … deer are not native here but as an introduced species they are becoming out of control and often are hit by vehicles - thank you Suzanne - Lindsay

That’s the sad thing they have no natural enemies there. Lindsay: when man interferes with Nature things always end up out of balance. Best, SuZ

A fine write, Suzanne. I wish you well in Line's contest. Nice illustration, too. Did you know that chrome hood ornaments are collectibles now and very expensive?

Hi Milton: I guessed they might be. I had trouble finding a good photo of a deer leaping so thought this played on the idea of a freeze frame. Have a great weekend. SuZ
