Clock of the Heart

It's been a year since my heart started ticking
Though the girl I loved wasn't mine for the picking
Other boys with their digital hearts
Showed their love before I could start
Being around her was very hard to do
For the face of my heart to her was new

I tried so hard for my tick to be heard
But even if it was she'd be deterred
She tried her best to snooze her heart
And wait a couple more years for it to start
So now, hurting, I sit and wait
Watching as more boys test their fate

The gears in my heart grind with pain
My face masks it well so it isn't plain
She deserves a world more than me, I know
But the tick in my heart never will slow

This is a re-upload I deleted this same poem before because I was a little self-conscious about it but decided that it'd be fine if I put it back up again. -Mark
