Notes About The Poem

6/27/2024

The Clerihew has been described as the literate cousin of the Limerick. Back in 2019 I brought the Clerihew and Limerick cousins together along with their couplet friends. I merged the words "clerihew" and "limerick" for the "clerimerick" portmanteau, and thus were born the Clerimerick Couplets!

I'm currently sponsoring a Clerimerick Couplets (Hybrid Form) Poetry Contest that expires on 7/16/2024. I'm having so much fun reading the entries that I got the itch to write one about myself. I know I can't submit it. Think of it as a Bio poem on steroids! Hey, that could be another contest!

Clerimerick Couplets Me

Introducing Mark Toney
The real McCoy, not phony
Works hard on accounting and income taxes
Writes poetry and prose as he relaxes

Mark fancied himself a tax expert
Cool pocket protector on his shirt
Touting tax tips he tried
Till terribly tongue-tied
Nevermore will he overexert

Hundreds flocking to Mark’s door
What does tax time have in store?
Mixed reactions to Mark’s beckoning
As they face their day of reckoning
