Classic Rock N Roll

Carlo Santana's Black Magic Woman,
in the 60's and 70's gave magic to his
band..

Drugs were part of this movement it's
fair to say. Getting high for many,
while listening to their music, was the
common way

   Peace signs, beads, bell bottoms,
psychedelic shirts, desert boots, and
long hair and marijuana, is what was
in style. Looking back and being part
of that history lifestyle, makes me smile.

   Peace protesters against the draft,
and Vietnam war. Jimi Hendrix, Peter,
Paul and Mary, The Beatles, Bob Dillon
The Beach Boys,Led Zepplin, Rolling
Stones,Elvis,Simon and Garfunkel,
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Neil Young,
Leonard Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, Carly
Simon is all we heard.

They kept our soldiers in Viet Nam
mentally occupied. It helped them
overcome their stress, and brought
some pleasure to their lives.

Rock N Roll Music had an impact
everywhere.The melodies and lyrics
represented a culture reflecting people,
who really cared.

  Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith,
Neil Diamond, Barbara Striesand,
Jim Croce made the scene. Years later
Disco and the Bee Gee's came dancing
in.

Disco died, it didn't last long, during
this time Rock N Roll kept rolling on.

Rush, The Eagles, The Police, Peter
Frampton, Boston, Reo Speedwagon,
Blue OysterCult, Fleetwood Mac, Bob
Seger, Steve Miller band, we listened
to. I can't forget Journey, Bruce
Springsteen, Foreigner or the Who.

Bon Jovi, Creed, Madonna, Red Chili
Peppers, Van Halen, Black Eye Peas,
Were hot then. Rock N Roll songs, will
keep on playing, and be appreciated
over and over again.

Time reflects the Lyrics in the songs,
of the good times and the wrongs.
Woodstock brought them all together,
a lasting bond to last forever.. .

 Homeward Bound Simon and Garfunkel
was the favorite song with the soldiers. Also
John mentioned The Lion SleepsTonight by
the Tokens. Robert Lindley also mentioned
their groups that were left out. Please read his
comments below. I also thank Robert for his
valued input.

I just want to add that the 60's and
70's were my personal favorite years.
I say this because people really cared
about the war and each other. They
were right...

Micheal it would require a few dozen more verses to get all of the greats from that at least that decade long classic Rock n' Roll period in the great poem my friend. Not even including several dozens in later decades methinks. So leaving some out was a must unless you wanted to write double , triple or more the number of verses already composed..

Thank you Robert for naming the ones I didn't. You are so right and the ones you mentioned I love also. There probably a few more Im sure my fellow poets will remind me of more. I like your selection. All Rock N Roll is good. I'm sorry for leaving any other fan favorite. Thank you Robert for these new ones. God bless you and all you love.

Love it Mike! This had such play and reminded us how the music reflects our history. I SMILED...was back there again! Nicely written! I know how difficult it is to incorporate a list woven within a gentle rhyme. You did it! Thank you for this Time Machine. E. Nau

Great memories. I was too young for Woodstock so I missed the beads and psychedelic shirts, but I was in time for hippy! Loved my overalls. My Dad gave me $10.00 to wear a dress to school once. Three Dog Night, Cream, Janis Joplin, CSNY and The Who - boy, did I play and love them. Donovan, Jethro Tull - I need to shut up because this is too much fun. Oh, James Taylor! Rock n Roll is still my favorite music! Oh, Grand Funk - Van Morrison. Dont revise, as is your write gave fun! Love it

I was only a child in the 70's but the music from then lives on today. Surprisingly my children are now discovering some of this great music, and funnily enough they are a bit miffed when I tell them I grew up with some of their now favourite tunes!

Laura it was a special time with special people finding themselves believing in a cause, being free spirits, being one with the music, and fun drugs they experienced with. At that time it was part of the culture. I remember having beads, long hair, no drugs though I think I was one of the few that did not do them. I was raised catholic went to a strict Catholic school. I love the Catholic people my father still goes to a Catholic church it's ok. I later became more Baptist. It was a special time. I play the drums and had my own band. Love drumming. I still play from time to time. All the classics. The Eagles are my favorite band.
