Clarity

Is so hard to come by.
At once a feeling and
a reality.
There are times when
I thought I had found it.

Sitting on a Maui beach,
two hours before
first light, it all seemed,
so simple.
Air so clear, the big dipper
can be touched!
Just the right thought will
transport you to
another world.

And you wait,
and you wait,
in anticipation of the next
true thing.
Hope and desire are twins
that will do you in.

Here I am now, amidst
the clutter
of teddy bear bugs,
and papers,
and clothes,
and CD boxes,
and the TV on,
computer humming,
with the feeling that
I am as close here as
I was on the Maui beach
to clarity.
