City Lights In the Rain a Collaboration

City Lights In The Rain A Collaboration

His umbrella in hand held so very tight,
as he stands there motionless, in the park.
Gazing at a city, that lured him each night.
This city the only place, to ever leave it's mark.

The city lights guide him home,
even in the rain they light up!
Taking the path that is shown.
Sipping courage from a cup!

His soul allowed the rain,
to cleanse it of all the old.
But it wouldn't take the pain,
that left him feeling so cold!

Squared up to buildings so high,
the fear he forgets on his walk.
Cleared his mind with only a sigh,
listening to the cold rain talk!

To a city that stripped him of all,
his love, job, and a life he did adore!
But in the end when he stumbled he did fall,
and all his happiness now was no more!

His sole torment and only joy,
was the view walking from here!
Keeping in pity like a little boy,
Leaving the lights is his only fear!

I feel like I read this poem before (posted by your writing partner?)---I can picture the image holding umbrella and gazing the city--and the torment he feels to leave that scene. So much anguish..so well depicted..well written my friend, James..best for a win.

A poem like the rumble of a city, the vibrations coming through the words, the lights shining through. I like it. A soft spot. My best to you and your writing partner! xomo
