Circumstances Define Us All

Yes, you sleep with the boss, you know it’s wrong And now you are in an office where you don’t belong Enjoying as you may, you are not able to see That the boss is now a ruler over your work and your life And now you are the boss’ secretary and his second wife Why? Because circumstances define us all. You get ready for the race, you are sure you will win Sprint racing is something you really know You make a sprint for the finish but then you kick a rock You fall down in anguish, everyone is in shock You lose the race not because you were slow But why? Because circumstances define us all. You are so eager to pass but you don’t know a thing So, you sleep with the lecturer and he shows you the test You are so happy, you know you will get a good score But after the tests, the lecturer still wants more And now you are a slave, he sends request after request Why? Because circumstances define us all The doctor comes in with the news, you are HIV Positive You stand amazed and in shock, you strike a pause You never slept with anyone, all the emotions in your head rise But it was by circumstance, it’s not something you chose Is it your parents, your spouse? Who told you lies? You cry why? Because circumstances define us all
