Cicada Tryst

..the cacophony
of cicada chirpings
died down into the silent
stillness of this
sultry night

..and over there
where the giant mango tree
sat still on its own
vast, dark-green
shadow

..a silken silhouette
of a white scarf slowly waving
from an unseen hand,
at long last, assured me
..she had kept her word.
