Notes About The Poem

Christmas Without You

I sit here in front of my husband Overlooking a small pond Pine trees with pinecones on them A bird flits from one head stone to the next, staring at me The speckled granite stone stands tall engraved with a Celtic cross In the center S Doyle Roper CPO US Navy Vietnam October 14, 1943 August 29, 2018 Husband Father and Grandfather I placed a red poinsettia in front of the stone With a prayer and wishing he was here The holidays are so hard without him. “ Dad, I love you, I wish you were here with us. We miss you so much. The boys and grandchildren are the only thing that keeps me going. “ December 13, 2021

A wonderful write and one that will be cherished. Mine is strange as mom is in an urn…surreal. Both have their difficulties whether the body be buried or turned to ash. I still can’t wrap my mind around it so I try not to think too hard. No place to lay flowers. So different than I imagined. Eventually my parents will both be at a grave sight but in their hometown. Hugging you ~

Thank you, Kim, for the visit. I went to see my husband on Monday and my dad on Tuesday and clean the overgrown grass around it. It is best for all family to be in the same place.

very emotive, Eve. Sorry you have to spend another Christmas without him. Time goes so fast, doesn't it? I still seem to remember when you posted about his death and it does not seem that long ago.

Heartfelt piece Eve. He was loved by you and all you mentioned. Special memories through out the years are kept inside of you. He will always be a part of you and he will always be remembered. So many of us including myself loosing my dad Rene in September of this year, wishing he was here because when they were here the world was a better place. Big hug Eve God bless you and Doyal will always be with you...Like my dad Rene...
