Christmas Mourning
CHRISTMAS MOURNING
O mourning beast of Christmas steals three days.
The wife bakes joy with kids beside her skirt.
A man, mails cards just down the street, agaze.
The oven shield ablaze... the pavement’s curt.
A pulse of love delivers kiss and hugs
of cookie crumbs...the children whirl with dance.
Mom pours the chill eggnog...they cheer with mugs.
Before the nightmare ring, they’re in a trance.
The kettle blasts like vulturine alarm.
The buzz in ears a fright that makes one jump.
Reality that knocks to gift its harm.
Awake her tears which cause shoulders to slump.
O Christmas mourning song - it is bereft.
A manger lost to swollen eyes - a theft.
