Notes About The Poem

Christmas Mourning

I will turn, turn back time and the pages of my life, and go back, go back to when I was a child at Christmas; full of happiness and joyful glee before the sorrow, before the Christmas mourning. I loved Christmas day, the cooking and decorating, mom fussing and grandma dusting, dad twining lights; the fireplace crackling and snow falling outside. before the Christmas mourning. I recall the year that I wanted a life size doll. but got a baby doll and I was sad but held my tears; until I went to my room, but in time I loved baby doll, before the Christmas mourning. Another year I got snowball cat all white and cuddly, she ran up the blinking tree and stayed there all day; and we would go to grandpa's farm for a sleigh ride, before the Christmas mourning. Oh, I loved the food and family coming and going, the laughter and singing and dancing around; the decorations and helping mom with the food, before the Christmas mourning. I still have mom's and grandma's decorations, in a tattered box and I will decorate my own tree; then, will visit all the engraved names in the snow, on Christmas morning. ___________________________ November 18, 2018 Poetry/Verse/Christmas Mourning Copyright Protected, ID 18-1086-070-01 All Rights Reserved. Yes, so many memories we all have from our past Christmases, Constance. However, you have really imaged those deep, sentimental, feelings of loss so well in your poem. Congratulations on your fine placement in the contest. Hugs, Sandra

This is dramatic in delivery, the repeated lines bring the emotional punch full on. I enjoyed the entire write, delightful imagery and memories of white wrapped up in a sum up of dark's line. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Christmas is always a time that reminds me how much I miss family and friends who have passed. We have so many treasured memories of merry Christmases, but they can never be repeated. Still, we keep them in our hearts You have written a beautiful entry, Constance, and one to which many readers will relate. Best wishes in the contest, dear! (Made it to my sister's. Sooo warm here.) Love, Carolyn
