I will turn, turn back time and the pages of my life,
and go back, go back to when I was a child at Christmas;
full of happiness and joyful glee before the sorrow,
before the Christmas mourning.
I loved Christmas day, the cooking and decorating,
mom fussing and grandma dusting, dad twining lights;
the fireplace crackling and snow falling outside.
before the Christmas mourning.
I recall the year that I wanted a life size doll.
but got a baby doll and I was sad but held my tears;
until I went to my room, but in time I loved baby doll,
before the Christmas mourning.
Another year I got snowball cat all white and cuddly,
she ran up the blinking tree and stayed there all day;
and we would go to grandpa's farm for a sleigh ride,
before the Christmas mourning.
Oh, I loved the food and family coming and going,
the laughter and singing and dancing around;
the decorations and helping mom with the food,
before the Christmas mourning.
I still have mom's and grandma's decorations,
in a tattered box and I will decorate my own tree;
then, will visit all the engraved names in the snow,
on Christmas morning.
