Christmas Memories

Christmas Memories

I remember hard candy at Christmas
With nuts and or'nges and tangerines!
All stuck in my stocking and choc'late drops!
And a Big clump of grapes piled on the top...

I remember we never could buy them...
For such things, the money we could not spare;
But or'nges and pine, the scent from the tree,
Have always smelled just like Christmas to me.

I don't remember much under the tree,
(Full of trinkets, icicles, lights, and bells!),
But I know I never did go without...
And I was always glad I did not pout!

So hung my stocking...looped over a chair...
That's how I knew, Santa Clause, had been there.

I am young, but your description of Christmas gives me a feeling of such warmth and anticipation and love :) And isn't that what it should be about?

A delight to read Deb. It didn't take much to make us happy, often the holiday alone was treasured. Sounds like you had a great childhood filled w i th love. 7 ; )

This was beautiful and charming Deb. Such a hometown Christmas you have created with this poem, it is almost as if it is a wonderful Christmas Card, with a cottage and snow and evergreens, with a s horse drawn sleigh. Nicely done.
