Christmas Gift
You asked
"What do you want for Christmas this year?"
I sadly wished that you were here
My eyes welled up held back a tear
Even though I fully understand
Time keeps flowing like liquid sand
It's not yours or mine to command
Still I want to see you smile and hold your hand
For I am here and you are there
Without you here this is just somewhere
Sometimes the distance isn't fair
yet I know with clarity that you care
I clear my throat and try to smile
Enjoy us talking for a while
Yet I know on Christmas day
I'll be here and there you'll stay
So for Christmas as I decorate my tree
I'll imagine that you're here with me
For you are a gift beyond compare
Even though I am here and you are there
Dedicated to Mom
I love you and will miss you. Thanks
for leaving a part of you and Bob that
I can appreciate every Christmas. I will
be putting up the tree this weekend.
