Christmas Day Befor It Got Here

It was Christmas day befor it got here,
Or Christmas eve.
The night was clear,
And the moon was bright,
But not quite full.
It was cool and no wind was blowing,
At times it was quiet enough to
Stop and listen to the plants grow.
I have to think that maybe
It was like this on a night
In a field outside Bethlehem
On a night when a Child was born.
A dog came down the alley and came to me unafraid,
I wonder if on that night long ago if
The wolf did the same thing to the shepherd.
And as I thought back,
I wish I could have seen the Star.
