Notes About The Poem

Written during COVID and disappeared, I only found it from a backup I was going to delete.

=====================================

Christmas 2021

I love Christmas
a special time
watching people smile
seeing children laugh
a blessing this year
in lieu of the grief
and illness around
we need to remember
it's a time to
love one another
and show we care
there was a time
we were told
that wise men came
to see a child
this child grew up
he spoke about
what matters
my Christmas wish
is things that matter
will be our treasure
finding a home
in our hearts

covid certainly brought its challenges - not being able to see mum in her care home for many months was so hard to bear. and when we could visit - masked up and sitting apart she couldn't hear me or see my lips moving because of the mask - it was heartbreaking hugs jan xx

The year 2021 was hard on us because all three of us in this house had COVID at the same time. One was not able to wait on the other one. Somehow, we made it. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. My husband has COVID again, but I nor my grandson has been diagnosed with it but I think I am having a mild case. Sara K

Hi Edward. This is definitely a fresh breeze and a lovely example for your contest. Since you have not been hosting contests for a while, you might not be aware of one of the many new rules by PoetrySoup, for example, no dates on the poetry page (it is in red at the top of the text box when you submit your poem). I would like to enter, but don't want to break PS rules ...

It may not be a form on PS, but it is poetry that 2as written by the poet, Anacreontic and there are so many contests on soup that are not actual forms... Thanks for your feedback..Edward I hope your contest goes well..We are all amateurs at the end of the day. Best wishes

I did not mention that this particular poem was an Anacreontic. I am hosting a contest titled "Anacreontic Verse 5" which you noted I violated the rules at Poetry Soup, which I acknowledge. I am an amateur, which can have more than one meaning. A person who does something for the love of it, and it could also mean someone who is not very competent at something. I write from my heart, so I'm both.

Anacreontics is not a poetic form, but rather a term to describe verses in the Greek meter, it can be found here on PoetySoup under the DICTIONARY. Your poem put me in mind of the English form: Skeltonic verse is named after its originator, an English poet and tutor to King Henry VIII of England, John Skelton/Shelton (1460–1529). James VI called skeltonics ‘tumbling verse’,because of how it tumbles down the page. Often humorous, there are no specific rules for subject, tone, or length.

Thank you! I deleted that reference... To be honest, this was not an example for the contest, it just worked out that way. If it was not for "Silent One" I may not have started the contest. Thank you again for sharing, Ed

Edward, so much at the time of Covid. So many lost to the illness and so many with after effects of the disease. Praise to the Lord that was born to change our lives. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem. And thank you for your condolence. Hugs Eve

Maybe so, the last one I sponsored was in 2016. I/We have now passed the crossing with our parents from both sides getting sick and then passing on, then we had COVID. Pondering...
