Choir of Bone and Light

Coral builds from bones
      beneath blue light,
               a quiet ledger
                       of vanished breath.

Polyps inherit
       the calcified past,
              layer on layer
                    of patient death.

Bright fish drift
      through borrowed halls,
            unaware of the cost below.

a living reef,
      radiant, fragile,
            the reef sings
                     in calcified breath,
                             an architecture of endings.

Sigh! The choir of bone and light! Who could even imagine that ~ you really spark the most profound creativity my dear Alison... The cycle of death that you've depicted there "the calcified past, layer on layer of patient death. " Just wow! and that line "architecture of endings" really stood out for me the most! How moving and poignant is that! The fragility of life depicted in such a soul-stirring way ~ Always a pleasure reading your unique artistry, sending you light and best wishes.

Alicia, your poem explores continuity, change, and life's fragile balance. Great imagery of coral reefs symbolizes life and death.
