Chitted By Time
Rock stood
silent above the oceans fray
gray speckled and chitted
by time
by sea salted air
by shells air dropped by the gulls
Winds swept over it
rains drench it
sun beat kindly
and unkindly upon it
Families visited
rested on it
…their voices and laughter filling the spaces ...floating
on the crested breezes
and then were gone again
Ants would come and ants would go
Spritely green grass grew up beside it...bleached
in the summer sun to blond
died off again with the chills of fall
Rock remained
never coming
never going
always there
...to be found
