Chiseled From Ice
My mind is chiseled from ice
Hair itchy as if infested with lice
Reality isn't so nice
But living in fantasy has a price
We're all prisoners to our own despair
Uniquely personal but unequivocally unfair
Thoughts form the confines of a lair
Eroding values so beware
Almost every line I've written is laced with pain
But the words are smudged and more of a stain
And I struggle with conformity again and again
As I seek to stay within the lines of my own lane
Why can't the gods see all I want is to be free
But my mind is a prison surrounded by endless sea
And with no way to flee
All I can do is hope to find the key
Reality is a knife that cuts deep
Down to the bone the blood will seep
No matter how many tears I'm still a creep
And there is no empathy as I weep
When the ice of my mind finally breaks
Because of the phonies and fakes
I'll be shivering with the shakes
But it's too late to prod the brakes
People will say they care but refuse to show it
Because deep down they don't care if they blow it
Because apathy runs deep and we all know it
The end of my life's rhythm they can only slow it
In a world full of talking heads
I'm just a statistic among the walking dead
And shattered ice litters my self-made bed
But it's the next life I truly dread
