Chili

the chili’s good.” i said
it was, but the beers made it better
“it’s really, really good.”
it stuck with me, the taste
the act, actually
the act of eating
the fact that I was being fed
that chili had a whole lot more
than beef and broth and cheese
that chili had friends and love and learning
drama and plays and days spent
on stages where i found myself
and lost myself many times
that chili had my past
it had my future and my dreams
and it was damn good
“This is damn good chili” I said
it really was, but the beers made it better.
