Child's Sleepless Night

Dead of night, too dark to see.
I can’t see the hand in front of me.
So here I’ll stay, with prayers to keep,
Hoping I fall, again to sleep.

But wait! A noise, I heard outside.
Under these covers, should I hide?
Or should I run to mom and dad?
Cause if I wake them, they’ll be mad.

No, no, I’ll stay right here in bed.
I’ll pull the blanket over my head.
I hope that noise soon stops for sure,
For I can’t take it any more.

Maybe the monster in my closet deep
Is snoring now, so fast asleep.
So why can’t he just stop his snore?
I wish I knew, but can’t be sure.

Forget the noise, I’ll tell me now.
I’ll fall asleep again somehow.
Until I do, I am wide awake
Not knowing how much more to take.
