Notes About The Poem

Listen to poem:

Children of the War

by Bob Moore (2018)

There can’t be many of us left, we children of the war
born ‘39 to ’45, in a land, was sick and sore
of fighting for our freedom, but knew we had to win
and once it all was over, a new life could begin

Our mothers and our fathers, and aunts and uncles too
had made a stand, ‘fore we were born, to fight and see it through
they were fighting for our future, so we could be free
and live the life which we may choose, and never bend a knee

To tyrants who would take our freedom, and change the way we live
they said no, and marched away, to give all they could give
they would not kneel before a foe, who would take it all
better they should stand and fight, so as one, they answered the call

So now we children of the war, have almost lived our life
I wonder if they are looking down, and think it was worth the strife
our world may not be perfect, they did what they had to do
they gave their future, gave their life, gave their all for me and you.
