Childhood In Summer

Joys of a childhood in summer return As my life slips quickly into autumn's grasp Carefree days romping through meadows Hiking through densely overgrown paths Clandestine alliances with special friends Avoiding the drag of younger sibling's call Carnival and the circus--exciting treats Fun-filled days of sandlot baseball games The anticipation of weekend fishing trips Adventurous vacations in the family car Times never again to be repeated fondly My grandchildren too busy with computers! written May 24, 2021

I'm working on a free verse narrative of my school boy vacation summers, and the activities my friends and I sought out to escape the boredom when the onlu thing to do was to create mischief – something boys are never at a loss to do. The lasg line of your fine summer poem was right on! / Maurice

Computers are ruining a child's summers now! "Avoiding the drag of younger sibling's call Carnival and the circus--exciting treats" I remember these days!

Thanks, Caren. I'm afraid our kids are missing out on so much that we derived great pleasure from growing up.
