Childhood Bliss

Lost days of....
 jumping in puddles,
making gourmet pies,
drinking water from the garden hose.

we rode our bikes everywhere
dairy treat knew us by our first names
streetlights were our curfew,
on weekends we explored-
no technology needed.

we were carefree to live
eating grandma's homemade cookies still hot,
sunbathing on towels in the backyard,
playing at the beach at cedar point.

we lived on Cherry Kool-Aid and adrenaline
home cooked meals at friend's houses-
where your parents were my parents.

these may be lost days,
but memories keep childhood spirits alive

Thanks, Karen, for sharing your work. Your memories were so specific. Definitely got a sense of nostalgia reading this one. Double-check the wording in the second stanza "dairy treat new us by our first names". I stilled enjoyed it. Congrats on your placement!

Thanks for stirring up some memories I have too --- though not as many as you, I imagine. I was on a pretty strict leash. ~ gw

A wonderful "Childhood Bliss" read/write. Yes, the bikes got us around. A Kool-Aid  stand in the hot summer made drives pull over for a cool drink. Oh yes, a home cooked meal at a friend's house was heavenly. Great days that are only now a great memory. Have a wonderful weekend writing away..............
