Chicken Coop People

We whirled around like flakes in a snow globe.
Dad weaving miracles, keeping us un-cold.
5 peeps living under a sway-backed roof.
In a one-bedroom converted chicken coop.

Feathered tenants must've thought it a mansion.
Dad and Mom must've thought it a land-based Titanic.
Uncle Barnacle must've thought it a great place to crash.
Brother and I were just 2 gumdrops adrift in Candyland.

There're just two of us chicken coop people left.
We never chat about our chicken coop past.
I thank Rooster for busting his beak, keeping us fed.
And a hen who panned love from lean times and trash.

This poem is so unique and creatively thoughtful at the same time. Such a great perspective with a bit of humor thrown in. A fave for me, Anthony. :)

This put me on pause. I felt so much reading your poem that I needed to absorb before I could form a response. Coming upon this is something I'm thankful for. No amount of time can pass that would render the story irrelevant; many people throughout history lived this truth. Your imagery and openness with the reader is engaging and personable. Again, I felt this and that's what a poem hopes to do. You did do. CayCay
