Cherished Heart

Cherished Heart

My paper heart, trimmed in fragile lace,
Longs for love notes scribed on its face -
In sonnet words “Won’t you be mine-
My cherished child - my valentine?”

Devotion true, for all time,
No broken vows and no false rhymes
Faithful promise between the lines -
Covenant from my valentine.

I feel your heart beating with mine
Heart to heart in endless time
You choose me in timeless rhyme
Tenderly be your valentine.

When I feel my heart cold as stone
Lonely hearts club, beating alone,
No one night stand – one life renewed -
My valentine you see me through.

Flawless and abiding love letter
Perpetual life together
Cherished heart, a pure love divine,
This my eternal Valentine.

Sam, I sense a different and more powerful tone here in this eternal rhyme of Valentine. Really like the opening two lines and the general feel of this piece, actually a surprise for a valentine poem. This is different and good. Congratulations on your high placement here.

Thank you my friend. It started out as a song that I adapted to a poem. I had a feeling you would pick up on the lyric quality especially with your love of music and art - a love for the arts we share. Blessings!

So Sam, if I said I loved your valentine, that would be corny. Right? But I respected the rhymes, the creative imagery and the eternal last line. It hit every button for sure. Well deserved praise!

Hi Rick! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to explore valentines in so many perspectives. So grateful for your placement and the contest. Your gracious message reminds me of the scene from the Indiana Jones Last Crusade where the templar knight tells Indiana "You chose well." A high compliment indeed! Sending you blessings of the heart!

I love the 'Covenant' and the 'timeless rhyme.' A very sweet Valentine, my friend. Light, Laughter, and Love, Gershon

Hi Gershon! Am way behind in answering emails - what else is new! I was hoping someone would pick up the Noah Covenant reference! At the U of Chicago there is a piece of a Dead Sea scroll that talks about the "uncircumcised heart." That phrase still leaves me pondering with all of its "covenant" implications! So glad you liked this valentine. Sending all the blessings of a covenant life!

The "broken vows" and "false rhymes" have made me a skeptic, Sam, but I would love to meet someone who is truly devoted. If you have, then you are blessed! Absolutely beautiful poetry... Hugs, carolyn
