Cheap Shots

it’s too easy to mock
and ridicule
to take on airs
so pompous
pretentious
arrogant
irreverent
and insolent

blatant cheap attempts
to have us look
the other way
at least momentarily
take the attention
off our own 
personal flaws
and shortcomings

The struggle for me is not to lower myself to that level and respond. the older I get the less time I allow myself to be with these people. I am getting easier to disappear.
