Changing Me

I see me now-who I want to be
A girl so strong-a heart so free
A spirit ready to fight without rest
Yet a girl with mercy entwined in her breath
I can see the girl I want to be
But she isn’t the one looking back at me
When I’m gazing in the mirror
Her heart is crippled by her fears-
Her eyes are clouded with the scars of years
Her spirit is confused with whom to fight
And mercy is slipping out of sight
I am not the girl I want to be
Not even sure if I ever could be
But every day I wake renewed once again
And try to make myself into my dream again
And with the help of my Master and Friend
I will sleep a little more like my dream and less like I am

"I can see the girl I want to be / But she isn't the one looking back at me." Deep words. I like your writing. This is the same struggle I face with my mirror, too.
