Change of Heart

Has the mouse now left the house
Or has the cat attacked?
As now it’s quiet in the night
And I wish to go for snack

But, there on counter is the sign
The mouse was not too far
In fact I see the darned critter
Behind that mason jar

It looks so huge, but so deceived
Enlarged through looking glass
Oh, come on cat, get off your butt
Before I kick you in the …wait

I think it’s gone, yes from this world
It lay there ever still
I’ll go and clean it up, just now
While now I have the will

But, there a twitch, oh my it moved
I think it’s still alive
I cannot move any closer to it
Until I’m sure it died

But then I’d feel so evil
I cannot see it pass
I must go save the little guy
Before the cat gets it, at last

Cute! I know the feeling. There are some things we just don't have the heart for. Vince
