Chains

Did you see the linkage tighten on the chain around my neck. If I lose a few more links, it will be hard to catch my breath. I've got to focus, I've got to keep my mind clear. These chains can be exhausting, I can admit to a little fear. Many times I've walked the fine line, always alert and sharp. I didn't notice how I was growing tired, my surroundings falling apart. I try to live life as best I can, I haven't passed every test. Though my breath may be shallow, these chains haven't beat me yet. Who put these chains on my neck is a question your bound to ask. I can tell you I put them there myself, for the sins of my past. Each time I find absolution. Is the time I pass another test. Thats when a link is given and I can finaly catch my breath. Each time I get a link another sin is cast away. In the end I'll count the linkage, for each sin I have now paid. We all have our own chains, something we recieve at birth. Each chain is different for each individual. Who has the most links isn't always first. I'll keep on carrying my chains until I breathe my last. The linkage may be long yet isn't heavy, just atonement for my past. My chains are always with me, sometimes they get displayed. For the times I seem to live my life in my usual carefree way. Yes that's the way I live, a little to care free at times. My chains carried with me, company all the while.

except for the spelling mistake in stanza two I think this was a great recitation of life and our choices. Thanks for sharing.
