Celebrate Teachers

Let's celebrate teachers--give them a big hand!
For they hold the treasure a child's mind needs.
They open doors to discovery's wondrous land;
then urge them along to help them succeed.

Their drive and coaxing we feel throughout life--
whispers of "you know you can do much more."
Life, you told us, is not won without strife,
so, "get busy, let's see what you have in store."

When recalling school days, who comes to mind?
Schoolmates in classes, acquaintances fleet.?
Along with your good friends, who do you find?
I'll bet it's the ones who made learning sweet.

Miss McMillan, who came with us from Jr. High.
Iris and Byron Chew stretched our brains far.
Miss Mershon said let's give pyramids a try.
Mrs. Babcock had us reach for a star.

Thanks, teachers, for giving us distant shores
to visit, and snow-capped mountains to climb.
Thanks for holding our children's hands in yours
guiding their journey through momentous times.

Thanks for helping those who have tutor needs;
for late nights grading papers without end.
You smile as we leave, for you planted seeds.
All this, and you manage to be a friend!

This went straight into my heart. My mom is a teacher for 40 years. I started my journey now. I can't express how much I enjoy the teaching and learning process. I'm also a learner in front of my children. This poem is an amazing tribute to all the teachers out there!!

Swetha, good for you for your desire to teach growing minds and show them how wonderful learning is! We should revere teachers. Best of luck!

My eldest sister was a teacher, so I know how hard they work to install knowledge in the pupils and to guide them on their way. A wonderful tribute to teachers everywhere… Belle

My grandmother taught grades 1-12 in a one-room schoolhouse and carried a Winchester 30-30 to defend them back in the day when children attended school only when they could get away from their chores, so I knew from Day 1 what teachers endure to share knowledge! Nice write! Enjoyed! Aloha!

That's amazing, Rico. Thanks to your grandmother, many had the opportunity to learn. Today, many students don't care about how many hours teachers put in so they can learn.

When many teachers and school systems are under siege, I raise my hand to every teacher in this land, and, I dedicate my comment to the memory of two teachers who forfeited their lives in Uvalde, Texas defending of their students the only ways they knew how.

They are absolutely heroes, in so many ways. But America is the land of sports heroes. Teachers are. sadly, forgotten.
