Cats Song

Two cats yowling and screaming
Facing each other neither submitting
Staring and hissing, tails rapid flicking
Warnings signs of impending butt kicking

Tufts of loose fur flew through the air
Two territorial felines, a vicious fight flare
Exposing retractile, razor sharp claws
Penetrating bites - flesh torn by their jaws

They stop for a moment to gather some strength
New positions held with a guarded new length
Ears flattened down - body arch pose
Poised for new battle, next swipe to their nose

What seemed like hours this fight carried on
Neither was yielding both screaming cats song
Someone shouted and gave them some chase
Startling both cats whom scattered post haste

Silence now golden no sound could be heard
Not even a mouse or hoot of owl bird
When suddenly screeching echoed nights air
Two foxes mate calling - a date flirting pair.

lol animals have their ways, so do humans, I guess sometimes all we long for is some peace and quiet and a truce of course. :)

Cats are sound so ferocious when they fight. Think I need to grow more catnip, it may have a calmer affect on all the cats in the area lol. Emilia : )

Cats pretty much have a mind of their own. We have four and they are all the same. They used to fight a lot but they have finally figured out the pecking order so it's a little more peaceful. Enjoyed the read, Emilia. Hugs, John

Most I had at one time was five. I normally tend to get two at a time and usually siblings as I can never leave one behind. Only have the one now. Hugs, Emilia : )

Have had many cats over the years, one used to sit on my lap then come too and dig his claws into my thigh ouch. I'm back from the coast, had a great few days away. Hope you're well. Tom

I'm sure they see us as their personal scratching posts lol. I only have the one cat now and he is very placid. Glad you had a great time away Tom. Emilia : )

- A lovely poem ... even though I'm not a cat person ... I must admit I'm a little scared of cats ... this cat song you write about sounds like little children crying :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Thank you Anne- Lise, some I have had in the past have been a little temperamental on rare occasion but guess we all have our bad days even cats. Would get a donk with a paw which never hurt as they kept their claws in but was a warning lol. Hugs, Emilia : )

Cats sure put up one hell of a fight, you can see why birds, rats and mice don't stand a chance. Never sure if cats actually belong in a home, or they just rest there till night lets them out on the prowl.

They say you never truly own a cat. Some of the cats I've had in the past have had some really nasty wounds caused by fighting and the vet bills was just as nasty too. Emilia : )
