Cathedral Tears
Who are the children
sleeping on the stairs of holy cathedrals
embraced only by tattered clothes
and
who has forsaken them
as they huddle beneath the veil of night
Who are the children
crying on doorsteps of holy cathedrals
on unforgiving winter mornings
and
when shall they sing our verses
written with families in mind
Who are the children
praying in cellars of holy cathedrals
who only speak on Christmas Eve
and
what can the future offer them
when their parents can't even be found
Who are the children
abandoned by compassion
set adrift on a somber sea
and
when will God forgive us
for not asking their names
